The Accessible Summer Research (ASSURE) Fellowship, hosted by the Department of Anesthesiology at WashU Medicine, is more than just a research program—it’s a launchpad for students with diverse aspirations, providing them with the mentorship, skills, and experiences to excel in medicine, research, and beyond.
The 2024 Anesthesiology Summer Research (ASSURE) Fellowship Program welcomed nine exceptionally bright and enthusiastic undergraduate students for an intensive 10-week summer-long journey. Immersed in a department known for its leadership in NIH-funded research, these fellows had the unique opportunity to work alongside and learn from experts at the cutting edge of anesthesiology and biomedical science.

ASSURE fellows concluded their summers with an end-of-program poster session at the School of Medicine, where they presented their work and answered questions about the research they conducted throughout the summer. Looking ahead, the ASSURE fellowship program aims to continue growing in size and scope by seeking additional support through grants and philanthropic funding. Recently, the fellowship program was awarded a grant from the Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital which will be instrumental in maintaining momentum and continuing to improve the program.
