The Department of Anesthesiology is excited to introduce the inaugural cohort of Anesthesiology Summer Research Fellowship (ASSURE) scholars.

The summer fellowship program received a large number of excellent applications, and the review committee selected the following applicants as the inaugural cohort:

Brandi Bradford is currently a junior at Harris-Stowe State University, studying biology. She was born and raised in St. Louis, MO, and has previously worked at a local preschool where she developed a desire to take care of others and become a healthcare professional. Brandi learned about pharmacology while participating at the BESt Pharmacy Summer Institute, where she discovered her passion for research. She is interested in attending medical school or PA school. Her hobbies include softball and watching movies.

Bulenda Shayo is currently a junior at Harris-Stowe State University and is pursuing a career in the medical field. Bulenda has been in the US for six years and was born in the North Kivu Province of the Democratic Republic of Congo. As the youngest of five children, she was cared for by various people and developed a need to take care of others in return. She aspires to be a plastic surgeon because she enjoys seeing people happy and feeling good about themselves. Aside from focusing on her career goals, in her free time, she enjoys listening to music and watching movies.
